Background

The Quality Assurance Unit at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Cairo University was established in 2005 with the beginning of the faculty’s pursuit of accreditation in accordance with the plan of the Ministry of Higher Education to develop education in Egyptian universities. The members of the unit were carefully selected to achieve the maximum possible communication between the unit and those in charge of the educational and research process. The unit was also supported by a group of administrators to help achieve the unit's goals and support its independence. The Quality Assurance Unit is one of the units of the College of Veterinary Medicine and it has independence in managing its financial and administrative affairs and reports directly to the Dean of the College.

Leadership locally and regionally in the field of quality assurance, continuous improvement, education, and postgraduate studies. Excellence in quality assurance processes related to university performance and community service.


Program mission:

Disseminating and deepening the thinking of quality among faculty members, administrators, and students with the aim of improving performance in the educational and research fields. Upgrading community services to qualify the College of Veterinary Medicine - Cairo University for accreditation and follow-up to achieve the college’s vision, mission, and strategic objectives.


The strategic objectives of the Quality Assurance Unit:

  1. Disseminating and strengthening the culture and concepts of quality, and awareness of the importance of applying evaluation programs among all faculty members and employees of the college and its various scientific and administrative departments, which achieves excellence in performance and improves its outputs.

  2. Developing specialized training programs and workshops in the field of total quality to raise the efficiency of individuals in order to build and improve the institutional and human capacities of the college and qualify it for excellence.

  3. Reinforce the principle of community participation for civil society institutions and associations interested in education to participate in monitoring and support a quality climate.

  4. Gaining the confidence of the Egyptian, regional and international community in the outcomes of the educational process in the college.

  5. Establishing mechanisms for internal follow-up and performance evaluation in all academic, research, service, and administrative activities within the college to ensure the achievement of the college’s objectives and upgrading its outputs.

  6. Continuous follow-up of the offered courses and academic programs, setting academic standards and reference marks, and evaluating them to verify the educational outcomes and their compatibility with the (national) academic reference standards, and calculating the percentages of compatibility with the target reference marks.

  7. Determining the strengths and weaknesses in educational programs as well as laboratory equipment, presenting appropriate proposals and means to overcome weaknesses, setting plans and determining the necessary capabilities for that.

  8. Follow up on the implementation of quality and continuous development projects, qualifying for accreditation in the college, and activating its continuous development mechanisms.

  9. Receiving students, identifying the educational obstacles they face, helping to find appropriate solutions, and providing them with an exemplary school climate.

  10. Taking care of students scientifically, morally and financially, and involving them in the processes of continuous development and follow-up

  11. Upholding the values of excellence and competitiveness in all disciplines of the college.

  12. Supporting the process of total quality assurance and accreditation and encouraging all scientific departments to participate in all accreditation requirements.

  13. Supporting continuous improvement processes by directing those in charge of various development activities, each in its field, to keep pace with quality levels.

  14. Establishing reciprocal relations with quality assurance and accreditation bodies and organizations at the regional and international levels to obtain accreditation.

  18. Raising the quality of the outputs of the college’s activities in the areas of institutional capacity and educational effectiveness in preparation for obtaining continuous academic accreditation

  19. Apply the necessary mechanisms to achieve the effectiveness and continuity of internal audit systems.

  20. Nominating external evaluators for academic programs, following up on reports, and evaluating the departments' response to them, and their reflection on the educational process.
