Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine Distinct Program in Ruminants Medicine, Surgery and Theriogenology

Program Vision:

Excellence in preparing a veterinarian capable of competing in the fields of veterinary medical sciences, especially medicine, surgery and reproduction of ruminants (cows - buffaloes - sheep - goats - camels) at the local and regional levels and in light of international quality standards

Program mission:

Through this distinguished program, the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Cairo University, is committed to graduate a qualified, highly skilled and distinguished veterinarian in the fields of medicine, surgery and the reproduction of ruminants (cows - buffaloes - sheep - goats - camels) as well as their husbandry, breeding, feeding and maintaining their health from various diseases in accordance with the requirements of the Local and regional market within the framework of professional ethics.

Objectives of the program:

  1. Providing a program that serves the requirements of the local and regional labor market and meets its growing needs in the field of ruminant medicine and surgery in light of international quality standards.

  2. Graduation of a veterinarian capable of applying skills and knowledge in the field of medicine, surgery and reproduction of ruminants (cows - buffaloes - sheep - goats - camels) by studying the distinguished courses of these animals and methods of their breeding, husbandry, behavior and dealing with them.

  3. Preparing a veterinarian who is able and efficiently to identify the various diseases that affect ruminants, modern diagnostic methods and the most appropriate treatment regimens for them through scientific study and practical and field trainings.

  4. Accurate scientific identification of the various immunization programs and common diseases transmitted from ruminants to humans, how to prevent them, and the guiding measures required to limit their spread.

  5. Preparing and training highly skilled veterinary medical cadres and distinct techniques in the field of ruminant animals who can work in private clinics, farms, major productive projects and research institutes.

  6. Introducing the productive medicine system and the problems of intensive production in ruminants.

  7. Developing students' skills and abilities for creativity, innovation and scientific thinking through distinguished field learning and training in veterinary sites specialized in this field.

  8. Creating new job opportunities in the veterinary field and that the graduate of this program is able to compete and deal with partners interested in this field locally and regionally.

Program Advantages:

  1. Ensuring the graduation of veterinarians who are fully acquainted with the basics of science related to ruminant animals and qualified with distinguished experiences that enable them to diagnose and treat diseases affecting ruminant animals, provide the required consultations, and maintain the quality of service and the laws and ethics of the profession.

  2. This program is characterized by graduating a veterinarian with the ability to know the various preparations, drugs and immunizations of ruminant animals, their pharmacological effect and their side effects.

  3. Studying and applying the principles and methods of animal welfare so that the graduate becomes familiar with the behavior of ruminant animals, methods of raising and feeding them, and metabolic and other diseases resulting from malnutrition, as well as common diseases between them and humans and ways to deal with them.

  4. The program has been designed to guarantee a veterinarian with distinguished and modern capabilities in this field, to become a unique opportunity for institutions working in the field of ruminant animal production, such as large and medium-sized national and private projects for the production of meat, dairy and leather.

  5. This program makes the graduate required to work in research centers, institutes and institutions that use ruminants to develop and improve their productivity.

Bachelor's degree requirements

The duration of the program is six years (five levels + one year training)

To obtain a bachelor's degree, the student must complete:

A - All compulsory courses (73) courses equivalent to (190) credit hours.

B - Elective courses (24 courses) equivalent to 2 credit hours.

C- Passing the training programs in attendance, training, examination, and accepting the graduation research.

The general grade in the bachelor’s degree is calculated on the basis of the cumulative grade for the grades obtained by the student in all the compulsory and elective courses he studied.

Registration-conditions:

The first-level courses (first and second semesters) are registered with a minimum of 12 credit hours and a maximum of 25 credit hours. The summer semester can also be registered with a maximum of 12 credit hours. The student applies to register the courses if he meets the registration requirements for each course, the most important of which is success in the eligible courses. Consultation with the academic advisor and on the dates specified for the registration timing and rules which are issued by the College Council annually and published in the Student Handbook.
